Responsible Gambling

Responsible Gambling

18+ only. Gambling should be fun, not a way to make money. This page explains how to keep it that way, and where to get help if it stops being fun.

The basics

Never bet more than you can afford to lose. Set a budget before you start and stick to it. Treat any winnings as a bonus, not an income. Never chase losses, and never borrow money to bet.

Warning signs

Consider taking a break or seeking help if you notice any of the following: betting with money needed for essentials; chasing losses; hiding your gambling from people close to you; feeling anxious, guilty or irritable about your betting; gambling to escape problems; neglecting work, studies or relationships because of gambling.

Tools that help

Every licensed bookmaker offers responsible gambling tools. Use them: deposit limits cap how much you can pay in per day, week or month; time-outs block your account for a short period; self-exclusion closes your account for months or years; reality checks remind you how long you have been playing. We encourage every reader to set a deposit limit as a default.

Get help – free and confidential

If gambling is affecting you or someone close to you, these organisations offer free, confidential support:

BeGambleAware – information, self-assessment and support.
GamCare – support, counselling and live chat.
Gambling Therapy – international, multi-language support.
Gamblers Anonymous – peer support meetings worldwide.

Local helplines may also be available in your country – search for the responsible gambling organisation in your region.

MatchDayValue is an information website. We do not accept bets and we never encourage anyone to gamble.
