Transfer roundup – Friday 28 August 2026

Premier League & Beyond: Tottenham Dominate the Outgoings Column

With Gianluca Vicario confirmed on loan to Juventus on 17 August, Spurs have now moved on at least nine first-team and squad players since mid-July — a volume of outbound traffic that points firmly to a squad reset, whether planned or forced.

The headline departure remains Cristian Romero, who completed a permanent transfer to Atlético Madrid on 14 August. Losing their first-choice centre-back to a Champions League rival is a significant blow, and it follows the permanent exit of Dejan Spence to Inter Milan on the same date. That Spurs were simultaneously offloading to both of Serie A’s traditional powerhouses underlines the scale of what is being dismantled. Vicario’s subsequent loan to Juventus — rather than a permanent sale — at least suggests the club retains some leverage over the goalkeeper’s future.

Domestically, Spurs have been equally busy shedding numbers. Manor Solomon joined West Ham on a permanent basis in early August, adding another recognisable name to the list of confirmed departures. Will Lankshear made a permanent move to Middlesbrough on 21 July, and Adam Phillips followed him on a permanent basis in August — suggesting Middlesbrough have been using Spurs as something of a recruitment pipeline this window. Tyrell Thompson made a permanent switch to Manchester United in July, completing what appears to be a clearout of fringe and development players as well as established squad members.

On the loan front, Yang Min-Hyeok has joined KVC Westerlo, Mason Melia has gone to Lincoln, and Reiss-Alexander Russell-Denny has headed to Bristol Rovers.

Serie A: Inter and Juventus Both Benefit From Spurs’ Overhaul

For Italian football, the Tottenham situation has been quietly lucrative. Inter Milan have secured Diop Spence from Tottenham on a permanent transfer. Juventus have brought Guglielmo Vicario in on loan from Tottenham.

LaLiga: Atlético Land Romero in Statement Signing

Atlético Madrid's acquisition of Romero is arguably the most consequential deal.

Championship: Middlesbrough Quietly Active

Middlesbrough deserve a mention for their consistent business with Spurs this summer.

The overriding picture across this window is one club, Tottenham, reshaping their entire roster at speed. Whether the replacements match what has left remains the critical question.
