Deportivo La Coruña and Levante shared the points in a 1-1 draw in La Liga, a result that left neither side with a win to show for their efforts. Bil Nsongo had put the hosts ahead after the break, but a substitute’s assist set up Daniel Requena Sánchez to level for the visitors with eight minutes remaining.

How the game unfolded

The first half was not without incident. Iván Romero was booked for Levante in the 33rd minute, and Luismi Cruz received a yellow card for Deportivo La Coruña nine minutes later.

Deportivo made a double substitution just after the hour, and a minute later Nsongo broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute to put the hosts in front.

Levante responded by bringing Petar Ratkov off the bench in the 69th minute, and it proved to be the decisive move. Ratkov supplied the assist as Requena Sánchez equalised in the 82nd minute to make it 1-1. Adrián de la Fuente Barquilla was booked for Levante in the 89th minute, seven minutes after the equaliser. Adrià Altimira received a yellow card for Deportivo deep into stoppage time, in the 90th minute plus six.

The numbers

Levante edged possession at 54 per cent to Deportivo’s 46, completed 344 accurate passes to the hosts’ 305, and had five corner kicks to Deportivo’s three. Levante’s goalkeeper made four saves and Deportivo’s made three. Deportivo picked up three yellow cards and Levante two.

The draw extended a difficult run for both clubs. Deportivo have now gone five games without a win, recording three draws and two defeats in that spell, with both teams scoring in four of those five matches and no clean sheet kept. Levante have also gone five games without a win, drawing three and losing two, with both teams scoring in four of those five games; they kept one clean sheet across that run.

In the last five meetings between these sides, Levante have won two, with three draws, and both teams have scored in all five encounters — a total of 16 goals across those games.

Conclusion

A point apiece was the outcome of a match that swung twice in the second half. Nsongo’s goal looked to have earned Deportivo La Coruña a home win, but Ratkov’s contribution from the bench ensured Levante left with a share of the spoils. Neither side has won in their last five games, and this draw did nothing to change that.
